Can't Find Time to Exercise? If President Bush Can, so Can You

If you're like most people, finding time in your hectic schedule for exercise is practically an impossible feat. But, is lack of time really a legitimate excuse? Not according to one of the busiest people in the nation, President Bush.

In a Runner's World magazine interview, he was asked, "What's your response to people who say they are too busy to have enough time to exercise?"

"If the President of the United States can make time, [anyone] can make time," said Bush.

There are millions of excuses not to exercise. Too busy, too tired, too bored. None of them are valid reasons. Excuses provide an easy way to avoid exercising. The faster you work towards eliminating those excuses, the closer you'll be to living a healthier, more active life.

Setting aside time to exercise can be a tough challenge. But if you use a little creativity and compromise, you will be able to fit exercise into your day. And, you will be thanking yourself in the end.

Squeeze in a few 10-minute walks throughout the day. If you don't have time for a full workout, don't sweat it. Shorter spurts of exercise spaced throughout the day offer benefits, too.

Plan ahead. Approach exercise as if it's a meeting or a commitment. Take out your planner and look for open time slots. Pencil "exercise" into the empty slots you find. If it's on your calendar, you will be more likely to do it.

Get up earlier. If your days are packed and the evening hours are just as hectic, get up 30 minutes earlier twice a week to exercise. Once you've adjusted to early morning workouts, add another day or two to the routine.

Claim the back row of the parking lot as your own. Or park a few blocks away and walk quickly to your destination.

Power lunch. Make it a quick lunch and take a brisk walk around your office building with the rest of your time. Or, run to a nearby gym and take a 30-minute power-lunch class.
