As a medical diagnostics technician, you will be responsible for operating equipment that are used for capturing images of organs, tissues, blood flow and bones. The diagnostician is also required to use an MRI, sonogram, EKG or X-ray for diagnosing procedures.

Types

Medical diagnostics technicians will use a variety of equipment throughout their profession, so the title they hold all depends on what they are using. For instance, there are ultrasound techs, cardiovascular techs, nuclear medicine techs and EKG techs.



Training

The requirements of training for diagnosticians vary. To become an EKG tech, you may only need a high school diploma or GED and hands on training while on the job. Then for ultrasound techs, you would need to have completed a two-year training program.

Average Salaries

The average salary for medical diagnostics technicians as of January 2010 is $38,000 annually.

Salary Justification

Depending on where you live, the company you're working for and the experience you have will determine how much you'll be paid annually. For instance, those that have an associate's degree as a cardiovascular tech could earn between $38,571 and $66,797.

Outlook

So far diagnostician jobs are looking quite promising. It is expected that this career field will grow faster than average until at least 2018.
