As a medical technologist, you will have to evaluate blood test results and other specimen from bodily fluids. You will also have to take samples of blood and tissue from patients to check for fungus, bacteria and parasites.

Step One: Your first step is to complete a four year medical technology program. At the end of your study, you will receive a bachelor's degree and a certificate. Make sure that you attend a school that is accredited. You must also complete any internships that are required to be completed by the class you're attending.
Step Two: Contact the health department in your state to find out what the license requirements are to work as a medical technologist. You can then contact the board of occupational licensing for the state you live in and register to take the exam to obtain a license. Pass the exam and you will receive a license certificate.
Step Three: Next, you should begin looking at a few of professional medical associations that are similar to the field you will be entering; one in particular is the American Medical Technologists Association. Try to get a certificate from the association because this will make you look a whole lot better in the eyes of potential employers.
Step Four: Take computer classes if you aren't already familiar. You may be working with computers in this field.
Step Five: Consider taking a few courses in a specific area, like hematology, virology, toxicology or immunology. This will give you a better chance of getting hired in a specialized field.
