As people get older and less mobile, they have the choice of either go to a nursing home (or retirement home) or to stay in their own homes with assisted living care. With the latter option, individuals receive assisted care during the day, versus receiving 24 hour care from a nursing home. Some of the things you will help these individuals with include bathing, taking medications, laundry, cooking, cleaning and eating. If you would like to get a career in assisted living care, you must be okay with interacting with citizens.

Medical Staff

In an assisted care environment, the medical staff is required to help the residents with daily tasks. As a CNA, you will be required to help the residents get dressed, use the restroom, bathe and a variety of other daily living tasks. If you'll be working in assisted living care as an RN, you will be responsible for overseeing the distribution of medications to the residents. You are also required to record the symptoms and progress of the residential patients. RNs are known to supervise CNA's, LPNs and LVNs.

Therapy Staff

Another field you can enter into as a career in assisted living care is therapy. In this industry, you will help residents with leisure activities. Those that have broken legs, hips or have had a stroke, you will have to help rehabilitate them. You'll work with doctors to help get them functioning properly through exercises, like pools, steps, treadmills and parallel bars.

Administrative Staff

In this area of assisted living care, you will be billing patients and medical insurance companies. You will have to have knowledge of medical terminology and coding.

Other Careers in Assisted Living Care

Other areas in this industry, include social workers, owner/operator and support staff. All are vital for keeping the residential community functioning properly.
