One of the most important pats of a medical practice is sorting out the medical charts of patients. It is necessary that patient medical documents are organized correctly in order to allow personnel to get access to them quickly. There are a few steps that need to be followed during the organization of patient's medical documentation.

Reviewing the Paperwork

For one, you will need to look over the paperwork that will be documented. You can do this by looking over the sheet carefully to ensure that the all the sheets belong with that patient you are documenting.

Divide the Paperwork

To better organize patient medical documents you can divide the paperwork into sections. For instance, one section could be clinical notes and the other progress reports. You can use dividers to separate each section as well. Then as you add in more info, you can place them within the dividers. Another section you could add is lab tests and another for results. Any new patient paperwork, copies of insurance cards and consent forms can be in a section together. A miscellaneous section also be added for other paperwork.

Use a Hole Puncher

To keep all of the papers in order, you should punch holes into them and place them into the binder with the dividers. Now, you will be able to keep track of charts and other important patient medical documents.

Labeling

For each of the dividers you make, create a label; this way you won't get paperwork mixed up. One section can be labeled clinical notes, another referrals, patients info and labs. Then the miscellaneous section if you have one. Make sure to label the binder with the patient's name. It's best to put the last name first.
