Prior Health Care Experience
To become a candidate for certification in the field of wound care, you will have to have previous experience in the industry. Nurses and doctors that have a minimum of three years experience directly working with wound care will be eligible to take the certification for Certified Wound Care Associate. If you would like to obtain a more advanced certificate as a wound care specialist, you will have to spend three years at a clinic in the field and have a bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctoral degree in life science. Registered nurses, doctors of osteopathy and medical doctors are also great candidates.
Education
There aren't any minimum requirements when it comes to the wound care specialist associate certificate. It is recommended though that candidates take a prep course that is available at woundeducators.com. There is also a more advanced prep exam course that is available for clinicians who would like to take the Certified Wound Care Specialist certificate exam.
Application Packet and Fees
You will have to complete an application packet and submit a fee for the certification. It is $300 for the Certified Wound Care Associate certificate. Then it is $550 for the Certified Wound Care Specialist certificate. In the packet for application, you will have to provide your social security number, resume / curriculum vitae, copies of any professional licenses and a letter that proves you have three years of clinical wound care experience.
