If you've ever been in a hospital for an emergency, or a checkup you have likely met a medical assistant. These are the medical professionals that tend to patients before the physician comes.

They take care of the preliminary aspects of your visit, such as collecting data, retrieving your medical records and getting your ready to see the doctor or registered nurse. To work in this field, you will have to have great communication skills, people skills and be courteous. Medical assistants are also known to provide administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments, filing paperwork and answering phones. They are found to work in hospitals, physicians' offices and clinics. This field is in great demand, making it a great career choice for many.

In order to become a medical assistant, you will have to obtain the right education. You can attend a vocational school or community college that offers classes in this field. Make sure that the program you get enrolled into is accredited. You can either get a simple diploma or an associate's degree, which can take two years to complete.



Some of the classes you will have to take in order to become a medical assistant include medical terminology, first aid, math, medical billing and science.

Some of the tasks you will have as a medical assistant includes checking in patients to the medical facility, checking blood pressure and heart rate, updating patient charts, administering shots, filing charts, insurance billing and coding and updating medical records. Assistants are sometimes referred to as ''back office assistants'' because they work directly with patients. Then there are ''Front office assistants'' that are required to do administrative office duties.
