Just like with any business, it is required that medical facilities have a health care manager. These individuals are required to direct, manage and put together services that are then delivered to a certain population of clients.

Kinds of Health Care Managers

The role of a healthcare manager that has a mid-level or entry-level position is to provide services within the facility. They can provide nursing services, radiology or human resources.

Locations

In this field, you are able to work in a variety of places, such as hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, medical centers and long term care facilities.

Tasks

In some cases, health care managers are known to specialize in a certain area within the facility, like intensive care nursing, or they are sometimes known to be generalists and work in different areas of a facility. Then in the smaller medical centers, the healthcare managers are able to provide a larger scope of services.

Functions

As a health care manager, you will be implementing new technology, personnel issues, health delivery systems and regulatory requirements that are needed for daily tasks of the facility. Health systems are starting to focus more on disease care and prevention, so managers are going to need to prepare their employees for the transformations.

Outlook

The outlook for the health care field shows that it will continue to grow even during economic hardships. The job market in this field will grow faster than average for health care managers. You will have to have the right skills and experience in order to work in this field. The average annual salary for this field in May 2006 was $73,000.
