Like assisting babies and people, but don't want to get into the OB/GYN field? Consider becoming a midwife or midwife apprentice. To get into the field of midwife apprenticeship, you will have to study for about two years.

Instructions

Step One: The first thing you'll need to do is find an online course you can enroll into. There are programs from schools like the University of Cincinnati, which offers a Mater's degree in science in nursing (has a specialty in nurse midwifery). This could be a great program for you. If you like one of the courses, you can choose to continue learning to obtain the degree online. Or you can always enroll in a traditional school program.

Step Two: Before you can become certified by the North American Registry, you will have to attend about 20 births.

Step Three: The next thing you will need to do to get into a midwife apprenticeship is to talk with a hospital administrator or doctor that is local to you. He or she will be able to connect you with a midwife that is looking for a midwife apprentice.

Step Four: You can start by attending the births of close family and friends whenever you are able to. These hours can be counted towards the total birth hours you will need to become certified.

Step Five: Consider joining MANA, or The Midwives Alliance of North America. This is a North American organization that is committed to supporting midwives.
