The Team Lead contributes to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients by accurately processing surgical pathology specimens. Responsibilities include processing, embedding, and microtomy of all surgical tissues; cryotomy and frozen section staining; routine H&E and special staining; small tissue gross examination/tissue processing; equipment maintenance and record retention; and knowledge of pathology Laboratory Information System. Responsible for the day to day operations of surgical pathology or histology department in the absence of the histology supervisor. Maintains complete and accurate documentation of data generated and work performed; assists in Quality Management and problem solving; participates in testing and implementation of new equipment; develops protocols and QC slides; helps train new personnel; monitors supplies as needed; helps coordinate staff shift coverage and workload distribution; and assists in other activities as directed. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required.May be responsible for handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials.
Associate's degree in biology, chemistry or allied health required. Minimum four years of experience in all phases of routine histology required. ***Must have experience with Ventana instrumentationn and Immunohistochemistry test validation***
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills. Strong leadership skills and demonstrated good judgment in dealing with a variety of procedural and technical issues. Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and experience in test development and immunohistochemistry preferred. ***Additional experience with Immunofluorescence and In-situ Hybridisation**** Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.
Must be able to work an 8.5 hour shift Monday through Friday between 4:00am 6:30pm.
Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $25.16 per hour.
