DUTIES:

The Licensed Vocational Nurses selected for this position is accountable to the Nurse Manager, of the Primary Care and Specialties Clinics Healthcare Group at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System in Long Beach, California. The incumbent performs the full range of direct patient care for patients with medical conditions: Prepares, administers, and records medications and IV fluids in accordance with policies; Performs personal nursing care such as responding to patient's nursing needs, physical comfort and emotional needs; Involves patients and families in the participation of nursing care provision throughout the continuum; Conducts patient care planning which includes completing assignments in a timely manner with constructive utilization of remaining time; Assesses patient by identifying changes in condition and reporting them in a timely manner; Completes required patient care documentation and records significant observations and actions; Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; Demonstrates interpersonal skills and customer service standards such as communication, courtesy, and discretion when working and interacting with patients, families, and internal/external customers; Adheres to Medical Center goals and objectives by incorporating the Mission, Vision, Values, and Objectives into daily practice. The purpose of the work is to enhance the overall quality and effectiveness of patient-centered care to veterans and their family members to ensure excellent clinical care in accordance with the I.C.A.R.E. philosophy.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship.
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the NLN at the time program was completed or completion of education or training in the military service which is accepted by the Licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure.
Full, active, and unrestricted license.
Proficient in both written and spoken English.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
