Occupational Therapist Jobs
Occupational therapists actively engage people in purposeful activities to promote, regain, or maintain health and wellbeing, using occupations as therapy and enabling individuals to do occupations. They help patients to cope with rheumatoid arthritis by advising on specialist equipment to assist with daily activities, such as washing and cooking, as well as giving advice and information about support groups. Occupational therapists help someone who has been involved in a road traffic accident by developing a rehabilitation program to help re-build lost skills and restore lost confidence. They also advise on home and workplace environmental modifications, such as adaptations for wheelchair access. Occupational therapists help someone recover from problematic drinking by educating him or her about the effects of heavy drinking and teaching anxiety management techniques. They assist people suffering from mental health problems, including depression, to return to work.
Occupational therapists need a degree or postgraduate qualification in occupational therapy approved by the Health Professions Council (HPC), and most providers are also accredited by the British Association/College of Occupational therapists (BAOT/COT).
