Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that primarily affects premature infants. Thousands of children worldwide lose vision permanently because of diseases and injuries of the retina.

WHAT IS RETCAM II?

The RetCam II is a mobile, self-contained system consisting of a fiber-optic camera, computer with special software and color monitor. It is used to screen for disorders of the retina in children.

HOW RETCAM II WORKS
  • Advanced lenses fit directly on the cornea, quickly and safely scanning an infant's eye in about five minutes.

  • The operator uses a hand held fiber-optic camera, which can be angled to visualize all parts of the retina.

  • It documents lesions at the posterior pole, the optic nerve and peripheral retina by means of digital photographs.

  • Images are viewed on its video monitor and instantly stored on a DVD disc for future diagnoses.
