An MHA, is a Master of Healthcare Administration. In order to become an MHA, you are required to obtain a graduate degree from a university or college. Once you have a master's degree, you will be able to advance in the healthcare management industry, unlike with those who only have a bachelor's degree or lower.

The courses that you will have to take to become an MHA requires that you receive in-depth knowledge and skills in various areas of healthcare law, procedures and policies. Other areas that you will be required to know about include human resources and finances. Internships and residencies are also sometimes required to attract potential employers.

In order to get promotions you will likely need to have a master's in Healthcare Administrator. Just about every management job in healthcare requires a master's degree, says the American College of Healthcare Executives. For entry-level and lower managerial positions, a bachelor's degree is sufficient.

In 2008, it was reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that the median annual salary for a Healthcare Administrator is around $80,240. Then for entry-level managers, the annual pay is substantially lower, especially for those who work in specialty practices and smaller practices.

The medical field will always continue to grow, now and in the future. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for a Healthcare Administrator will grow by 16 percent up until 2018 or a bit later.

Managers that have an MHA are eligible to work in a variety of health care settings, such as physician offices, hospitals and private or government community centers. Some even work for insurance companies. You will have a variety of places to choose from once you graduate and gain experience.
