Purpose
As a sterilization tech, your job would be to properly handle, clean, assemble, test and package a variety of medical instrument types. Some of the methods you would have to use include chemicals and heat for sterilizing the medical equipment.
Work
If you decided to work as a sterilization technician, you could find yourself working in a variety of healthcare facilities like clinics, physician offices, hospitals, dental offices and surgical centers.
Education
The educational requirements of a sterilization tech is to obtain a high school diploma or GED. Next, you would have to gain admission into a tech school or program or into a college. Afterward, you would have to complete a program for certification.
Coursework
Once enrolled into a school, you will have to study different areas in the medical field. Some of the subjects you would have to go over include health safety, patient care, anatomy, surgical technology and procedures for sterilization.
Salary
Working as a sterilization technician could lead to a very rewarding career. If you've completed your training and would like to get employment in the field, you could find employers paying between $9 and $12 per hour. If you've already been working in the field and have 20 years of experience or more, you could make up to $17 per hour.
