The role of a radiation safety officer is to maintain knowledge of the procedures, policies and regulations regarding radiation safety of an employer or local, state or federal law. The job of the officer is to enforce the rules upon the staff members.

Regulatory Compliance

The radiation officer is the one that ensures that the facility is operating according to the procedures and regulations of the safety laws for radiation.



Auditing Radiation Safety Programs

Every now and then, it is required of the radiation safety officer to audit the radiation safety policies of employers to help recommend improvements wherever they are required.

Provide Training

Another role of the radiation officer is to train the employees within the company about radiation safety. They are also required to design and deliver programs for training purposes.

Liaising With External Agencies

Interaction between the radiation safety officer and external regulatory agencies will have to be made in order to keep up to date with any changes in laws about radiation safety.

Documentation

Keeping records of the actions surrounding the radiation program of an employer is also the responsibility of the radiation officer.
