When you first enter into a hospital or clinic, you are greeted by the hospital admitting clerk. In this role, you will guide people to fill out the required forms to get admitted or seen into the hospital. In this field, you are required to help the patients feel comfortable and understand the paperwork that they have to sign. The hospital admitting clerk job description is to very similar to that of a receptionist, except they're working within a hospital. In many cases, the hospital admitting clerk will meet and greet the patients that come in and interview them about their visit. They collect personal data and insert it into the computer database. They then guide the patients to the right part of the building for their visit. The clerks even set appointments and keep track of patient records. Answering phones, showing patients to the right room, having patients sign statements, taking and storing valuables for the patient and taking payment for the services provided.

Some of the skills that you will have to have to fit the hospital admitting clerk job description includes having organization, great communication, computer and office machinery skills and task planning skills. In most cases, employers will hire you if you have a high school diploma and meet a certain typing speed minimum.
