As a dietitian, you will be working in the field of food science and nutrition. You would be responsible for assisting people with bettering their eating habits and lifestyles. You will have to develop diet plans for the individuals based on their current nutrition needs and their health conditions. The nutritionist is also required to supervise the food services of hospitals and clinics.

If you would like to work as a dietitian, you will need to obtain an undergraduate degree in nutrition, food, food-service, dietetics or another related field. You can also obtain a graduate degree, which is recommended. You will be able to take courses in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, psychology, economics, physiology, nutrition, business, mathematics and sociology. Dieticians will learn valuable information about food and nutrition that will help them in their careers.

As a dietician, you will be working with different people all the time. You will have to be a social person with great communication skills. You will have to be realistic when setting the goals for the clients you work with. You will have to be friendly, yet authoritative.



Some of the tech skills you will need to have to work as a nutritionist includes having extensive knowledge of the food pyramid and the ability to count calories. You will have to know the proper sources of nutrients and supplements and how they work together to help the body.
