Back in 2006, there was a recorded 262,000 jobs that were held in the health administration field. It is expected that this field will continue to increase greatly over the next decade as well.

To become a health administrator, you will have to obtain accreditation through CAHME, or Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. You can find a little less than 100 programs that are accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.

There are different types of degrees that you can obtain in health administration. For instance, you can get an MHA, or master's of health administration. Or you can get an MBA, or master's in business administration. Then there are the MPH, or master's in public health and MPA, master's in public administration degrees that are related to a health care management field.

In order to get an MHA, you will end up paying about $50,000 a year at a private college or out-of-state school. Then those that are within your state or public schools will be about $10,000 annually.

The median annual salary for health administrators is around $73,000. Those that work within hospitals.

Once you obtain the degrees you need for the field, you will be able to work within physicians' offices, hospitals and long term care facilities. You will be the supervisor of a specific department, like medical records or surgery. They are required to maintain the overall operations of the center they're working in. They also make decisions about policies and equipment.
