One of the most important parts of health care is billing and coding. With it, medical professionals are able to keep records of patients and the treatments they have received and the conditions they have been diagnosed with. Also, the codes are used for billing purposes, which is sent to the insurance company of the patient for physician reimbursement for services rendered. You can't have billing without coding, they both work together to make a great health care system.

Billing

With medical billing and coding, the billing portion is important for invoicing and the submission of insurance claims. The medical biller is responsible for the accounts receivable copayments and taking care of claim denials.



Coding

With the coding portion of medical billing and coding, it is used to classify various medical procedures, injuries and illnesses using alphanumeric and numeric codes.

The purpose of billing and coding in the medical field is to keep track of diagnoses, medical history and treatments or procedures that were provided. These are then used for billing to obtain reimbursement for the services. These codes are also used for tracking illnesses, instruction, medical research and clinical care.
