Provides patients with direct nursing care based on the nursing
process and individual patient assessment needs. Provide families of patients with emotional
support, information and guidance in treating the identified patient. Educate patients and families in areas of
health and illness that maintain optimum levels of physical and emotional
functioning.

','!*!Requirements:
A minimum of an Associate Degree in
Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Appropriate state licensure, specialized professional credentialing and
other formal education as needed.
Registered Nurse competency is validated by the Competency Based
Orientation (CBO) plan. May provide
additional information related to competencies at higher levels. Maintains designated yearly competencies by
unit. Maintains certifications according
to specific unit requirements; i.e., BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc. Demonstrates a strong belief and behaviors
consistent with the Saint Joseph HealthCare Mission and Core Values (Reverence,
Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence).
Education:
A minimum of an Associate
Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is required. A
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is
preferred. Effective May 1, 2014, all new-hire Associate Degree
Registered Nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an
approved BSN program within two years of hire and complete an approved BSN
program within five years of hire.
Adequate conversational English is
required in order that the individual be able to take direction from
management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with
patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines,
and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies.
Working
Relationships:
Responsible
to the Manager. May supervise one or
more Associates in a clinical or educational setting. Daily contact is with co-workers, managers,
social services, medical staff, students, clergy, patients, families, visitors,
volunteers, and the general public. May
have contact with other members of the Health Care Delivery team such as
medical representatives, interns, externs, insurance agents, representatives of
licensing/regulatory boards and physician offices.
Physical
Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
Physical
coordination, mobility, verbal articulation, vision, and learning must be
easily performed. May be exposed to
blood, body tissues and fluids regularly, as well as other hazardous waste
materials. Must be able to tolerate
environmental temperature fluctuations.
May be exposed to radiation, toxins, dust, cytotoxins, and/or poisonous
substances. May be exposed,
periodically, to physical injury, burns, noise, and some electrical hazards.
Must work in
a variety of situations and adhere to Hospital policies in accordance with
safety requirements, including standard and transmission based infection
control and environmental precautions.
Must function appropriately in emergency situations. Must deal appropriately with aggressive
personalities through the use of effective communication and, as needed, use of
the chain of command. Must also be able to walk, stand extensively, bend,
stoop, squat, visually discriminate close objects, hear and distinguish normal
sounds.
Must be able to perform a variety of tasks under stressful conditions
with frequent interruptions. Has the
ability to concentrate, set priorities and make decisions while responding to
changes in the work environment in a timely manner. Demonstrates emotional stability when dealing
