Position Summary

The Supervisor - Laboratory is responsible for maintaining the integrity and the smooth daily operation of the assigned Laboratory section and for the direct supervision to the personnel assigned to that section. This is a first line supervisor that is responsible for the overall administrative and technical management of section operations. This position supervises Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Processors, or other laboratory personnel. Work situations are varied and require strong leadership skills, organization, prioritization, accuracy, discretion, good judgment, and independent decision-making. Major decisions are subject to the review and approval of the Manager. External contacts include physicians, pathologists, physician office staff, and patients. Internal contacts are primarily with the clinical units and other hospital based staff.

Minimum Requirements

Three (3) years experience in relevant area of clinical laboratory

Previous experience and demonstrated skills in a leadership or a supervisory role

Education/Licenses/Certifications

BS/BA in a science related field (Microbiology, Medical Technology or equivalent)

Certification of Medical Technologist, MLS(ASCP)CM -OR- categorical certification in Microbiology by AAM or ASCP

(A combination of post high-school education and 6 years of recent relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree requirement, with HR Compensation approval and provided the individual commits to pursuing and completing the bachelor’s degree within a specified time frame)

Specialized certification preferred
