Description
Performs the primary function of a Registered Professional Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating a designated group of infusion patients in accordance with all established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Is responsible for managing all assigned personal supplies, equipment in the Infusion Department, and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
Principle Accountabilities:
1. Acts as a patient liaison and advocate.
2. Assures proper documentation.
a. Documents assessments
b. Documents interventions
3. Participates in discharge planning.
a. Identifies home educational needs for patients
b. Instructs and educates patients
4. Assures orders are processed as follows:
a. Checks and enters orders via computer
b. Accepts telephone orders from doctor's office
5. Makes initial and continuous patient assessment.
a. Communicates the interpretation of lab data
b. Consults with physician
c. Reviews drug therapy
d. Coordinates administration of treatments with other disciplines as needed
6. Coordinates all aspects of patient care, including planning, intervention, education,and evaluation:
a. Develops, maintains, and applies age-specific knowledge relevant to the care of the patient population served.
b. Initiates blood and blood products.
c. Performs IV insertions, troubleshooting and maintenance.
d. Assesses and flushes ports.
e. Performs IV push medications and flushes.
f. Initiates invasive doctor's orders.
g. Makes future appointments for patients with standing/routine orders.
h. Provides patient education in emergency care, IV home infusion and IV catheter maintenance.
i. Provides printed information regarding discharge medications.
7. RN's in Outpatient Infusion area will participate.
a. Administering chemotherapy.
b. Declotting central line using TPA.
c. Assessing Infusaport/Groshong catheters, etc.
d. Performing therapeutic phlebotomy.
e. Providing home IV therapy educational needs.
f. Insert PICC's/Midlines.
g. Performs venipunctures.
h. Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
i. Administration of IV medications.
j. Administration of blood and blood products.
8. Performs clerical duties as needed.
a. Registration of all patients.
b. Enter all charges.
c. Order and maintain supplies.
d. Answer phones/schedule appointments.
9. Performs other work duties as assigned. 5%

Education
Nursing Degree Required
License - Certification - Registration (Text Only)Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri Required.
Experience
Capable of working to prescribed Hospital Policies and Nursing Standards. The Infusion Department of the Cancer Center will take into consideration the specific age-related needs of the patient. The Infusion Department may provide patient care to young adults over 18 years of age, adults and geriatric adults. Oncology experience preferred.
JOB DUTIES REQUIRE YEARLY VALIDATION FOR COMPETENCY and YEARLY COMPLETION OF HOSPITAL SAFETY PROGRAM. PARTICIPATION IN A BLS CLASS IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO (2) YEARS.
