The Section of Hospital Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to expand our inpatient service as new Med/Surg patient floors open at UC Medical Center.

 

Job Summary/Duties: Provide direct patient care services (i.e. as a “hospitalist”) to medical inpatients at UC Medical Center, with the availability of a collaborating Hospital Medicine physician as needed.  Provide medical consultation services for patients admitted to surgical teams.  Nurse practitioners will be members of the Section of Hospital Medicine, and will be welcome participants at administrative and educational meetings.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

*Daily provision of inpatient medical care, including:

*Patient histories and physical examinations *Review of laboratory and diagnostic results *Independent clinical reasoning and ordering of additional laboratory and diagnostic studies *Adjustments to medical and pharmacologic therapies *Daily progress notes *Discharge summaries *Communication with physicians & other providers involved in the patient’s care *Billing for E&M services rendered

*Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient *Order new medications or adjust existing therapies based on clinical developments *Monitor progress of patients, adjusting therapeutic interventions and engaging a collaborating hospital medicine physician, or specialty consultation, when necessary *Coordination of discharge transitional care & follow up *Participate in the education of nursing staff on the unit

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the appropriate agencies; Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the appropriate boards. Must be licensed in the State of Ohio, with a valid DEA license for Schedule II-V and all independent prescriptive authority therein.  Must hold a valid ACLS certificate.  Applicants having at least one year of inpatient medicine practice experience are preferred, though applicants with less experience are invited to apply.
