Description
Performs the primary function of a Registered Professional Nurse is assessing, planning, implementing, educating and evaluating a designated group of patients during the perioperative period in accordance with all established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Responsible for managing all assigned supplies and equipment on the unit. Responsible for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties in a manner consistent with St. Luke's Hospital mission and values.
Principle Accountabilities:
1.Performs pre-operative patient assessment
2. Assists in coordinating all aspects of patient care following the Nursing process using age specific knowledge relevant to the patient served.
3. Assists the surgeon intra-operatively by maintaining a sterile field, and in performing safely RNFA tasks as outlined.
4. Documents all aspects of patient care
5. Plans/participates in patient discharge from the Operating Room
6. Specialty Coordinator Role (Team Leader)
a. Facilitates efficient Team Operation Maintains inventory and equipment
b. Leads Team Meetings Participates in Team Leader Meetings, committees, educational activities and special projects
c. Coordinates orientation of new team members with Clinical Educator
d. Delegates duties to team members
e. Communicates with Scheduling regarding potential conflicts
f. Performs clerical/computer tasks (exclusive from the Perioperative Record)
g. Serves as educational resource
7. Supervises other team members in delivery of patient care
8. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education
Nursing Diploma or Associates in Nursing Required.
License - Certification - Registration (Text Only)Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri Required.
Experience
Capable of working to prescribed Hospital and Nursing Standards Capable of providing care consistent with the specific age-related needs of the patient.
May provide care to neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults. Capable of functioning in the Scrub Nurse or Circulating Nurse role.
Capable of functioning in the First Assistant Role following completion of approved RNFA course.
Provides adequate exposure of tissue and organs by retracting, sponging and suctioning. Provides traction/counter traction to aid the surgeon in dissection of tissue.
Provides hemostasis by clamping, tying and cauterizing blood vessels.
Sutures tissue as required to provide hemostasis, and/or the re-approximation of the peritoneum, fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin.
Applies stapling devices, hemoclips or any other surgical equipment necessary during an operative procedure.
Applies surgical dressings, secures drains, wound drainage systems, and Foley catheters. Previous OR experience required.
