Summary / Job Purpose

Chaplains assess the spiritual dimensions of health
and, as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, ensures the
provision of those services required to assure a whole-person approach to
healing and caring.  Chaplains assists
patients to understand more fully life's events especially illness as they
relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.  Chaplains assist hospital medical staff and
community participants in understanding the spiritual dimension of healing.','!*!Essential
Functions§  Works
collaboratively with members of the spiritual care department to build a
cohesive, spiritually grounded and mutually formative team; covers on-call and
holiday shifts as scheduled based on department need§  Establishes
mutually respectful working relationships with staff and physicians from a
variety of departments§  Initiates
visits to patients and/or families based on prioritized needs and referrals,
such as deaths, code blue (cardio-pulmonary arrest), significant changes in
patient condition, end-of-life planning, and identification and resolution of
interpersonal, spiritual or values conflicts.§  Communicates
available spiritual care resources and assists patients, families and staff to
access their available spiritual and emotional resources in response to and to
address their current circumstances, such as grief or loss§  Arranges
for sacramental ministry as appropriate to the patient and circumstanceOther duties as
assigned. Education
/ Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): ·        
Master's
Degree in Divinity, Theology, or related field, required.  ·        
Ordained
as a minister or rabbi, or recognized by a religious congregation as a formal member
or a lay person with the appropriate credentialing, required·        
One
(1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from a program accredited by
ACPE, USCCB/CCA required; additional units, preferredCertification by a national accrediting body
such as NACC, ACPE or APC preferred.Experience
(required and preferred):



























One
year experience in clinical chaplaincy preferred.

 

Adequate conversational
English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from
management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with
patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines,
and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies. 

 

Physical Requirements
and Environmental Conditions:  Must be
able to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills and perform tasks
which requires eye/hand coordination.  Requires
ability to move from place to place within a timely manner; strong mental
health stamina,  visually discriminate
close objects;  and hear and distinguish
normal sounds.  Required to have skills
in conflict management; listening; spiritual assessments and evaluations of
outcomes; communication with people of all levels.  May be exposed to blood, body tissue or
fluids, hazardous waste materials, sudden fluctuations in temperature, outside
weather, radiation, toxins, cytotoxins, poisonous substances, dust, chemicals,
bodily injury, and loud or unpleasant noises or smells.
