Cape Cod Healthcare announced that it is cutting 169 jobs, nearly 4.5% of its staff. The layoffs come as a solution to financial troubles from the past fiscal year.
Dr. Richard Salluzzo, Chief Executive of Cape Cod Healthcare, claims, “Our present financial performance is not sustainable.”
The new financial plan intends to raise between $15 to $25 million in new revenues and cut expenses by $16 million.
The hospital group has nearly 4,500 full- and part-time employees and will be eliminating 33 manager positions, 87 union positions, and 36 non-union, non-management positions. Thirteen people have also agreed to work fewer hours or have accepted early retirement packages.
Although Cape Cod Healthcare will be undergoing major financial restructuring, Salluzzo ensures that patient care and safety will stay the hospital’s top priority.
