The
Greenville Hospital System will add 800 jobs with a new budget increase in the 2009 fiscal year of up to $1.2 billion, a 12% increase over 2008.
This will create a 6.5% price increase to patients and
their insurers, with the cost of the average patient room rising 6.1%, from $740 to $785 per night.
GHS’ growth will result in about 800 new jobs for primary care physicians, specialty physicians, support staff,
IT specialists, and allied health-related positions.
About 550 jobs have yet to be filled. With the new jobs, GHS will employ more than 9,300 people.
The Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center operates five hospital campuses and a number of related facilities in South Carolina.
