There are 46,000 job vacancies in Kansas, according to the state Department of Labor. And five of the top ten occupations the Sunflower State needs the most are in healthcare.

According to the 2008 Kansas Job Vacancy Survey, the estimated job vacancy rate was 3.5 percent for the year. Both skilled and unskilled workers were in demand.

Education and health services, and trade, transportation and utilities industries had the highest statewide vacancies, accounting for 43 percent of all vacancies.

The average wage offered for vacancies statewide is $11.23 to $13.13 per hour. Jobs requiring a bachelor’s degree generally paid more than twice those requiring a high school diploma or GED.

Survey results came from 3,002 firms in the Kansas Quarterly Census of Employment & Wages Program, according to the labor department. .

The downside of accepting one of these new positions? You would have to live in Kansas.
