St. Barnabas Health Care System in Toms River, New Jersey has laid off 52 employees at Community Medical Center in order to further reduce costs. In just over a month, the company has reduced its work force by three percent.

On November 5th, 35 workers at Community were let go. That was followed by 51 layoffs at Long Branch's Monmouth Medical Center and 12 at Lakewood's Kimball Medical Center -- both St. Barnabas hospitals.

St. Barnabas officials would not elaborate beyond their prepared statement, including from what departments jobs were eliminated and whether more were to come.

The company statement said layoffs were from management, ancillary and support staff and resulted in $4 million in savings.
