Radiologic technicians, also known as x-ray technicians, are professionals that are responsible for capturing skeletal images of patients. In this field, you will work under doctors who will tell you where and when to take these images for the patients.

Some of the equipment you will use to perform these duties include x-rays, MRIs, or magnetic resonance imaging, and CT scans, or computed tomography. Working as an x-ray technician can be very rewarding; it offers competitive salaries, high demand job opportunities, limited education and upward mobility.

Job Growth

It's been predicted that the x-ray tech field is expected to grow substantially. Today, there are lots of job opportunities, but there is a shortage in these health care professionals. As the baby boomer generation continues to get older, the need for special health care services will be needed. Job placement in this industry is pretty high, making it an ideal choice for a career path.

Technical Knowledge

The more knowledge you have in the technical field, the more valuable you will be as an x-ray technician for employers. You will need to learn imaging technology and the procedures for preparing patients for x-rays. It is also required that you know how to calibrate the machine and capture images of specified areas that are pointed out by the physician.

Education Requirements

In order to work professionally as an x-ray tech, you will have to obtain a two year degree program to obtain an associate's degree. You can attend a career college or a university. Just make sure the school you choose is accredited. You are also able to study for a bachelor's or master's degree.

Salary

The median annual salary for x-ray techs is $52,210 and can be as high as $75,000. The higher the degree you have, the more you will get paid.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
